Today is definitely a day to remember. A hurricane came to New England - they called it Hurricane Gloria. I am writing by candlelight because the power is out. It has been out for a good 12 hours. I missed General Hospital and the SEASON PREMIRE of MIAMI VICE because of this stupid fucking storm. I don't know what the exact time is, but before I came upstairs it said 11:00

Thursday, September 26, 1985 (age 14)
Today was so dull. Sam wasn't in school today! I was so upset. We also had Girl Scouts today. Kendra said that Sam was sick and that he (hopefully!) would be in school tomorrow. We had a hurricane watch. I think it's called Hurricane Gloria. Yeah, that's it. Tomorrow we might not have school. Hope not - I want to go! Now you think I'm crazy. So? 9:46

Wednesday, September 25, 1985 (age 14)
Today we didn't have any school. It was Yom Kipper (sp). Funny name, huh? Anyway, Lacey came over today for a while. I watched Guiding Light with her instead of General Hospital. It's so dumb! I like General Hospital much more. Neil tried to play my trumpet today - Lacey tried also. I shouldn't rank because I can't play much better - but I can play Mary Had A Little Lamb! Good progress for one day! 10:05

Today only 4 people noticed that I had a haircut. Great, huh? Well, also I'm trying to look obvious. I'm doing a pretty good job of it in fact. Why am I being obvious? Well, I don't want to like Sam anymore - but I still do! It's killing me because I've made myself not to even look at him - it's terrible! Anyway, that's about it, no more to say. 11:10

Well! a new diary! Sorry about that <===== (ed. note: the book is torn, like some pages had been ripped out), I really don't know how that happened. Anyway, today was boring. School, homework, and doing the homework. The only really big thrill of the day is that I got my hair cut. Sikeamonde, huh? Anyway, that's about it - I'm tired so I'm signing off now - tah! 10:16

Sunday, September 22, 1985 (age 14)
The last page - already? Golly - it seems just like yesterday when I first wrote October 1, 1984 (rainy). Wow. Anyway, I switched my room around today - did you know that this is the first day of fall? Well, now you know. Lacey and Nadine came over today and we played Monopoly. I won, and had 11 $500's. I still can't believe this is the last page! Did someone rip out a few? No, I won't let anyone come within 10 feet of this. Well, I'm starting a new one tomorrow - diary that is. Oh and P.S. (don't tell anyone this), I still like Sam. 8:50

Saturday, September 21, 1985 (age 14)
Today I was over Nadine's and Lacey's for most of the day. We saw this movie called "Into the Night". Good movie - stupid ending. Then me, Dahlia, Lacey, Nadine and Wendy went to the mall. I got a poster of Miami Vice- totally cool! Then I got a shirt - pretty awesome! The thing was, though, I cannot stand going places where there is an unequal number of people. In this case there were five. And also in this case - Nadine paired up with Dahlia and Lacey paired up with Wendy. So I paired off with myself most of the time. Yawn! Time to go to sleep. 10:48
