Monday, October 21, 1985 (age 14)

Today was OK! First off, Mrs. Quay gave everyone in the class the same progress report as me and Lacey! Then in Band, we found out that we would have been in second place had we competed (and not just performed) in yesterday's parade. Everyone thought we would be in 5th or 7th place. Everyone was so happy. That's about all - excepting that Maeve says Beverly and Sam aren't going to go out! :) 10:07

Sunday, October 20, 1985 (age 14)


Today we had another parade. This one was for the 250th birthday of our town. It was really fun. After the band was done playing, me and Kelsey bought some chips and soda and then jumped on our Freshman Float. After that, EVERYONE went to the diner. The place was packed! That's where I found out Beverly and Sam like each other again. Oh well, the WHOLE day couldn't be all fun! 10:06

Saturday, October 19, 1985 (age 14)


Today was the homecoming parade. It was really fun. Then I went to Kelsey's house for a while, and after that came home. Lacey called later saying that we lost to our rivals (football) and we (the freshmen) came in second with our homecoming float. Then I went babysitting with her. It was OK, but later I discovered that I took the wrong hat from the parade. Dumb me huh? 12:00

Friday, October 18, 1985 (age 14)


Today Mrs. Quay conveniently stepped in just after the class bell rang. So I had no way of talking to her. And Kelsey got upset because Dahlia and Wendy were talking about her. Can you believe it? She's going to the homecoming dance with Kris Driscoll (ed note: Dexter's older brother). And Bonnie C likes Bob C (convenient). Also saw Miami Vice. Yeah! That show is PRETTY AWESOME. Well, best be chillin', buddy! 11:12

Thursday, October 17, 1985 (age 14)

Today Sam said hi to someone - I couldn't be sure if it was to Kelsey or me. Oh well, no matter. Oh my goodness! Mrs. Quay is the biggest bitch! Can you believe she put on my progress report "In danger of failing this marking period?" Bull shit I am! Tomorrow I am going up to her and demanding to know why she did that to me. Gosh! 10:06

Wednesday, October 16, 1985 (age 14)


Today was dull. In study hall it was kind of funny though. I was sitting by myself waiting for Natalie to come in. Well, she did, but with Wendy. They said hi but didn't even sit near me. So when they were up talking to the teacher, I got up to get a dictionary. When I passed by, Natalie touched me on the shoulder. I turned around and gave her the coldest, dirtiest look I could give. Then I went and sat back down. 9:39

Tuesday, October 15, 1985 (age 14)


Something very funny happened today. We were in Band, and I couldn't find my books, purse or clarinet case. Later, I saw that my case was shoved way back into a corner, behind a piano, a bunch of ponchos, and Sam. So when Band let out I went to get it, but I couldn't reach my case. So I said "Sam, can you hand me my case?" And so he started acting weird and moving the case around on the ground and then he said "Oh I thought you said Keys." I was like - No! 10:12

Monday, October 14, 1985 (age 14)



Today was OK. We (Becky, Lana and me) went to the mall. Becky was pretty sulky most of the time because Lana wouldn't buy her everything she wanted. I bought a pin, a ring, some cover-up and a magazine. Then Mom and Dad got home and Lana left. From Mom and Dad I got a necklace, a ring, a desk light and a model horse to put in my collection. In other words - I liked today. 9:42

Sunday, October 13, 1985 (age 14)



Today I went to the parade we were in for Band. It was in Springfield! (ed. note: Massachusetts) Well, it was fun even though it looked like Sam was having a shitty time, and though he brightened up a little at the sight of Kelsey. In the Band room he even reached out and grabbed her uniform - very lightly - and when she said "Oh hi Sam" - he seemed to waltz out of that room - serious! 10:20

Saturday, October 12, 1985 (age 14)



Today Mom and Dad went to Cape Cod and Lana (she's Dad's secretary) came to watch us. I went to Kevin Lyman's house with Lacey to work on our homecoming float, while Lana and Becky went to the center of town. When we got back I played cards with Lacey until Becky and Lana got back. Then we had dinner, watched some boring television, and now we are going to bed! 9:18

Friday, October 11, 1985 (age 14)



Guess what happened today? I kept telling Kelsey that I KNEW Sam was going to come down the hall and say something to her and not to me. So she goes No Way Daphne. So while we were walking in the hall we saw Seth. So Kelsey gives him a big hug and Sam comes up to her as soon as she's done hugging Seth and hugs her too. And so later she says to me "Oh Daphne I'm so sorry - but what could I have done?" 11:05

Thursday, October 10, 1985 (age 14)



Today was pretty disastrous, let me tell you. First off - guess who Kelsey likes? You got it. Sam. I asked her - I said "So Kelsey who do you like now?" And she said "Well, I can't tell you." and I said Why? So she said "I just can't." But she was flirting SO BAD with Sam it was horrid.
And I decided I like Bonnie C now. Anyone who thinks I'm cool I like! 10:08

Wednesday, October 9, 1985 (age 14)



Today was dull. I mean, VERY dull. I think the most exciting thing that happened all day was - I cut the grass. I know, take a big, gigantic SIKE. But hey, what can I say? Well, tomorrow is Thursday, did you know that? Just in case you didn't, there it is. What am I writing? I don't care, at least I'm taking up space. 10:10

Tuesday, October 8, 1985 (age 14)



Let's see. Well today was half-good and half-shitty. The shitty things first: Test in History - probably failed. In Band, you should have SEEN Kelsey flirt SO BAD with Sam! Almost threw up!
I want to move - I hate this place. It would be nice to start over again.
Now for the good things. We (Science class) got to be on videotape for something - pretty neat though. 10:15

Monday, October 7, 1985 (age 14)



Today was a dull day. Nothing happened. Well - wait - nah, nothing happened. I went to History, then Algebra, to English, then to lunch and then French. Then to Science (test) and finally to study hall. I think Sam likes me but mostly I seriously doubt it. I also watched the end of A Long Hot Summer - it is so excellent! Too bad it's over with tonight! Boo-hoo! 10:24

Sunday, October 6, 1985 (age 14)



Today me and Lacey (and family) went to the mall. Well first, we went to the flea market where me and Lacey played two video games and both got a picture of Bryan Adams. THEN we went to the mall. I got a Miami Vice calendar. Then I watched A Long Hot Summer (movie). Pretty cool! 10:02

Saturday, October 5, 1985 (age 14)



Today was OK. Me and Nadine went to the center of town and I got 2 magazines. Also, can you believe it - Nadine made me go into the junk store! It's like oh gross! She got a stuffed animal, earrings and a pack of Now and Laters. Pretty sad, eh? That's about it I guess - serious heavy day and what not! 10:02

Friday, October 4, 1985 (age 14)

Well, today was pretty cool. I saw Miami Vice today! I love that show. Don Johnson is so fine! Mom and Dad think that the show is dumb because they don't stick around long enough to find out what's going on. Can you believe it? John Taylor was on it tonight! I couldn't believe it! Well, I certainly waited long enough too! (Last week - no power - see Sept. 27). Well, tah! 11:13

Today was so rough. In Band, there was this big long line to get up the stairs to the storage room, and I couldn't get into the line. So Sam (can you dig this?) stopped the whole line in back of him to let me through! I was like hmmm! Then, this lady called me and Lacey down to the office because Mrs. Q was complaining that we were 5 minutes late in getting to class! Wotta bitch! 9:57

Wednesday, October 2, 1985 (age 14)




Today was so upsetting. In Band, we went outside to march and while Kelsey was teaching me how to play this one measure, Sam came up and started talking to us. I was like ohmigod! And when he left, I felt so embarrassed. I like him so much! Nothing else happened except Hal and Katrina called me and blamed me for calling Nik Huntley a nerd when it really was Nadine! Tuesday, October 1, 1985 (age 14)



Today we had school. I saw Bob Craig (so FINE!) and Sam (even FINER!). No seriously though - in lunch today I was writing funny little things on Sabrina's notebook. One said Dahlia loves money. And Wendy loves Dahlia - Sabrina said ooooh! And as I tried to cross it out, she snatched it away and said "No, it's funny - I want to keep it". So I said Sabrina you'd better not show them - it was just a joke - and so she did anyway. 10:23

Monday, September 30, 1985 (age 14)



Well today our power came on! It was so funny because we were playing UNO (Becky and me), when all of a sudden I looked up and saw the hall light on. So I say to Becky "Becky, guess what". And she said what and turned around. When she saw the light she jumped up and started to yell "The electricity is on! The electricity is on!" And that was that! I know the time is now 10:08

Sunday, September 29, 1985 (age 14)



Today is the third day with no power. Now it's getting aggravating. Mom did some hand-washing today, she's allergic to bleach so some of her fingers are swollen. Dad is going nuts, saying how the center of town and everyplace else has power and how we're going to be the very last street to get it. Also, Nubby got out. We can't find her. Becky is hysterical. Hope we find her tomorrow. I think it's 9:30

Saturday, September 28, 1985 (age 14)



No power again today. This is so hard - I'm trying to write by flashlight now. It isn't working that well. Anyway, we tried to go to the movies today, but alas - no power there either! Shop Rite was so dark. I've never seen it so empty! Then we played Monopoly when we got home. Becky won! Lacey came in second, I in third, Dad in fourth and Nadine went bankrupt. I think the time is 11:35

Friday, September 27, 1985 (age 14)



Today is definitely a day to remember. A hurricane came to New England - they called it Hurricane Gloria. I am writing by candlelight because the power is out. It has been out for a good 12 hours. I missed General Hospital and the SEASON PREMIRE of MIAMI VICE because of this stupid fucking storm. I don't know what the exact time is, but before I came upstairs it said 11:00

Thursday, September 26, 1985 (age 14)



Today was so dull. Sam wasn't in school today! I was so upset. We also had Girl Scouts today. Kendra said that Sam was sick and that he (hopefully!) would be in school tomorrow. We had a hurricane watch. I think it's called Hurricane Gloria. Yeah, that's it. Tomorrow we might not have school. Hope not - I want to go! Now you think I'm crazy. So? 9:46

Today we didn't have any school. It was Yom Kipper (sp). Funny name, huh? Anyway, Lacey came over today for a while. I watched Guiding Light with her instead of General Hospital. It's so dumb! I like General Hospital much more. Neil tried to play my trumpet today - Lacey tried also. I shouldn't rank because I can't play much better - but I can play Mary Had A Little Lamb! Tuesday, September 24, 1985 (age 14)



Today only 4 people noticed that I had a haircut. Great, huh? Well, also I'm trying to look obvious. I'm doing a pretty good job of it in fact. Why am I being obvious? Well, I don't want to like Sam anymore - but I still do! It's killing me because I've made myself not to even look at him - it's terrible! Anyway, that's about it, no more to say. 11:10

The last page - already? Golly - it seems just like yesterday when I first wrote October 1, 1984 (rainy). Wow. Anyway, I switched my room around today - did you know that this is the first day of fall? Well, now you know. Lacey and Nadine came over today and we played Monopoly. I won, and had 11 $500's. I still can't believe this is the last page! Did someone rip out a few? No, I won't let anyone come within 10 feet of this. Well, I'm starting a new one tomorrow - diary that is. Oh and P.S. Saturday, September 21, 1985 (age 14)



Today I was over Nadine's and Lacey's for most of the day. We saw this movie called "Into the Night". Good movie - stupid ending. Then me, Dahlia, Lacey, Nadine and Wendy went to the mall. I got a poster of Miami Vice- totally cool! Then I got a shirt - pretty awesome! The thing was, though, I cannot stand going places where there is an unequal number of people. In this case there were five. And also in this case - Nadine paired up with Dahlia and Lacey paired up with Wendy. So I paired off with myself most of the time. Yawn! Time to go to sleep. 10:48
