Today I went to Kelsey's and then Kelsey, Lacey and me went to the center of town. I went to Weathervane and bought this pink shirt. Then last night at about quarter to 12, Sabrina (can you believe this?) called the local radio station and dedicated "Heaven" to "Sam Dawson from Daphne Stevenson". Last names and everything! I didn't hear it, but Lacey and Nadine did - I really am not embarrassed, I'm kinda glad. Well, let's get on to more boring things like Lacey and Nadine getting rid of Bumpus and got a new puppy called "Tinkle". What a cute dog! P.S. Wendy says maybe the radio thing might get us together! Saturday, May 25, 1985 (age 13)



It is my most honorable pleasure to tell you about today. The thing is, what is really IN a day? A day can be dark and gloomy or it can be bright and full of cheer. The gloomy thing about today and the cheerful part can usually be put together to form the kind of day we usually get. Like for example, the gloomy part of today is that I did not see Sam at all, but that gloom was replaced by going to the center of town w/Nadine and then going again with Kelsey and Lacey. So as you can see, I was incredibly filled with gloom but I hid it with the cheerfulness parts of the day. Fascinating, isn't it? 11:23

Friday, May 24, 1985 (age 13)



Today, in Band, Maeve said she forgot Brandy Tobler's card in her locker (it was her birthday today). Anyway - as it turned out - we went to 3 rooms and then someone said it was in the trashcan of a 4th room, so we're like "OK". So that was the highlight of the day because after that was nothing but pure boredom - except that we went out to eat - and I just got done seeing this movie. Not knowing its name really helped. Well I'm extremely dead, I haven't been sleeping too well, so g-night. 11:34

Thursday, May 23, 1985 (age 13)



Oh well another GREAT day in the life of me. Let's see - only 12 more people to sign my yearbook (out of 23 - not bad). Anyway, shame, Sam wasn't one of them. See, I asked him in Band and he said "Sure", but when Billy was done, we had to go outside to MARCH and he didn't have any time. So afterwards I was going to ask him again - but Bonnie Caldwell came up to him and started "flirting" with him. By the way, Callie's pretty pissed with Bonnie because she just won't stop! I can't say that I blame her either. Yawn! Time to SLEEP. 10:00

Wednesday, May 22, 1985 (age 13)



Hey chilly - I got my yearbook and ticket for the amusement park today. I am number 103! Can you believe it? NO I THOUGHT not! No sir! Anyway - today when we came back from the center of town I decided not to go with Nadine - I just HAD to take the scenic route and MISS SAM! Oh yes diary fans, Sam was talking to Nadine while I was taking the SCENIC route! I am SO pissed! Well, I did yell "Hi" to him on the way out of school...but OHMIGOD I MISSED HIM! OHMIGOD I think I'm gonna faint! 9:20

Tuesday, May 21, 1985 (age 13)



Today the yearbooks came out and at first I didn't think I was in it (and was glad, but then someone found my picture and I could have fainted!) It was that school picture they took in November! Oh ick! Gross out totally! Tomorrow - I intend to buy a yearbook and get Sam to sign it. I think I need a tremendous amount of courage to do this, don't you think? Yeah, well there are only two little problems holding me back - Bonnie C and the rumor that states that Sam is interested in Beverly - oh well, back to reality! 8:57

Monday, May 20, 1985 (age 13)



Today was an extremely exciting day, so we won't waste any time getting to it - OK? Well, after Algebra, me and Callie went down to the band room to get our stuff. Sam was down there because today is Monday. While he was opening the door, he was also trying to pull his pants on over his shorts. So Bonnie C goes over and says "Oh! Look! Sam's pulling down his pants!" So Sam turns around and pulls down his pants AND shorts! Bonnie, Callie and I were in hysterics. Then, later on, me and Lacey were on a bike ride so we turned down Tilman Road (where Wendy and Sam live) and we saw Sam! The first time he was coming down his front steps. When he saw Lacey and I he yelled "Hey! Get off my street!" So Lacey starts to laugh as we keep riding. The second time was when we were passing Tabitha Teller's house and he passed us in his car. The THIRD time was when were just coming down past Wendy's house, when he passed us AGAIN - but this time I waved and screamed "Hi!"
So the freshness of this day passes and we go on to another fresh day tomorrow - ah well, tah-tah! P.S. Look, two whole pages! 9:07

Sunday, May 19, 1985 (age 13)



After coming back from Lacey's, I cut the grass and then ate lunch. Then me and Lacey sort of cleaned my room when Nadine called to tell me that Deb would do my perm. So Gardner and I left and Deb did my perm. When it was done, Neil was ranking because it was so fluffy but then it flattened out a bit.  I <3 it! It's so cool! Can you believe the first word out of Kelsey's mouth when she saw it was "cute"? Like eew! Gross! I hate that word! Anyway, me and Lacey finished cleaning my room and then I went to her babysitting job and watched her "babysit". Like o wow! 9:09

Saturday, May 18, 1985 (age 13)



Today I went over to Wendy's house. Sabrina was there, and I wanted to see Sam's house (ed. note, they lived on the same street), so we took a walk down there. Sam's dog scared Wendy when we passed his house (it's green!) so we turned back. Then we went to the cemetery where Sabrina stood there taking pictures. Then we went to the center of town, where we met Tabitha Teller and this girl Emily. Then off to the library to see Lacey and Nadine, and then back home. After dinner at yours truly's house, I went to sleep over at Lacey's after watching "Revenge of the Nerds". Good Night! 9:04

Friday, May 17, 1985 (age 13)



Today was Wendy's birthday and the dance! Oh the dance! It was so much fun! I tried to spend the whole time with Sam but I probably only got in about 75%. I didn't slow dance with him however, even though Callie kept saying "Daphne, do something about it." I'm like What, Callie. Beverly says that I have to give him some time for him to begin to like me. I said  - How long? She said it took her 4 months with her boyfriend. Oh well, I've waited longer than that. This shouldn't be too hard. 1:02

Thursday, May 16, 1985 (age 13)



Today was probably just like all the others except that in Band, instead of Mr. Neuman,  Mr. Futsch and Ms. Dustin were there. Mr. Futsch was telling us all about his adventures, and Ms. Dustin took attendance. Then after Algebra, Callie, Dan and I went down to the Band room and guess who was there! Yup - Sam! Sam tried to lock Dan in the band room but Dan took a spaz and pushed the door so hard that Sam was pushed back.  After we had left, Callie and me kept saying  - Oh my god - he is SOOO fine! Then I went to Girl Scouts - finally after 3 weeks! G-night. 10:13

Today in Band, Sam got kicked out! He was mumbling to Billy and Mr. Neuman goes "Sam, get out." That was extremely upsetting. Then Nadine told me to go to the dance. I found out Sam was going ALONE - so I said BET! When Mom got home, we went out and I got new shoes. They're flat and white. But they are really pretty. Oh-oh, Mom's coming gotta chill out now. Oh my god I hate him so fucking much! Christ I HATE HATE HATE him! Oh, who? Why Tyyyyler of course. Wat an hassahole! Big man thinkin' he's all fresh - well I got news for him! Oh my god - in catechism he was being so obnoxious - he just wouldn't STOP ranking on me! So, when it was over, I cried while walking Kelsey home. I could just kill him for what he did to me! God and to think I still liked him a little bit deep down inside. But I like Sam much more. Ahh Sam the one who would never consider himself the "top of the heap" - thank you! Monday, May 13, 1985 (age 13)



Well, I might as well say it and get it over with so in case I say it later on and no one will know what I'm talking about - I don't like Tyler anymore. Yeah well as a friend, sure, OK Bet - but no more oh lovey-dovey shit. I'm much too interested in Sam K. Dawson. Today before Science - me, Callie, Dan and Sam were in the band room and when we were leaving - Sam went to lock the instrument door and Dan turned off the light and shut the main door - me and Callie were walking out and Dan came running up saying that Sam tripped and fell. He thought it was funny - I DID NOT. 9:14

Today was Mother's Day (so?) No sir.
Anyway, Deb (ed. note: Lacey's mom) was supposed to perm my hair today - right? Well anyway, I went over to see when she would, and Nadine says she wasn't! That SHE and LACEY were getting theirs done today and no way was Deb going to do 3 perms. And they never even wanted perms! Christ...
Oh well, Dahlia's mom said she'd do it on Saturday. I hope Dahlia doesn't decide to get a perm that day too! G-night! 9:50

Saturday, May 11, 1985 (age 13)



Today (even though it was a Saturday) it was soooo wonderful! First off, we went shopping and I got my bike tire fixed. Then I got Mom (for Mother's Day) some flowers, and for me I got an Ogilvie Home Perm, Stridex and Suntan Oil. While Dad was getting Mom a card in the drugstore, I saw Sam there - he actually said hi to me! And when we were leaving - he waved bye! Oh my god I could have fainted. Then later on, Lacey, Nadine and me went to this play "The Wiz" and guess who was there! Sam of course! Dad doesn't like him though - too bad for him! Help me before I take a massive spaz - 10:31

Friday, May 10, 1985 (age 13)



Today was a pretty exciting day! First off, it was a beautiful, warm 81 degree day and plus Sam AND Tyler were here - mmmm! Maeve got a piece of Sam's sweatshirt for me because they had a fight or something and it got ripped up. Callie was really grossing me out in Science too - saying things like "Daphne! That little piece of cloth was on his BODY - on his beautiful BODY - oh just think Daphne!"  I'm like oh my god stop! Then we (Lacey, Kelsey and me) went to DekHockey. Our team, the "Eagle Snacks" - lost by one point! Ugh! Oh well, g-night! 10:20

Thursday, May 9, 1985 (age 13)



Today - well actually today was boring. I mean nothing really exciting - but if something HAD been exciting, wouldn't I have written it down? I think the most exciting thing that DID happen was, I got my hair cut - oh my god - let's take a most serious SIKE now! Well, that's really all, I mean what else COULD there be? I mean, besides GOING to school, COMING back, and CUTTING my hair, EATING dinner and GOING to sleep, WHAT else could there be? Oh well, not much - bye! 9:55

Wednesday, May 8, 1985 (age 13)



Today - well, let's consider this. Oh YEAH. In Algebra - me and Wendy saw Vinnie and Lacey near the library door - it looked SO funny! Lacey was kicking Vinnie's heel, and when she noticed us laughing, she got SO embarrassed. Then we had this sort of "free period" where Callie, me, Tyler and Wendy all talked about our most embarrassing moments. Then before lunch, Wendy found this serious, 3-week old lunch in her locker, and when we looked at it, the whole thing was green! It was SO gross! 9:32

Tuesday, May 7, 1985 (age 13)



Today went like this - Gym: Wiffle Ball! Oh boy like real SIKE! French: boring, as usual. History: we read about how the Indians were kicked off their reservations. English: Mrs. Cesta kept yelling at Oscar - and he just wouldn't stop! Band : we are trying desperately to do these new songs - also Sam hasn't been here for the past two days! Algebra: I can't find my paper and its due tomorrow! Science: I don't even KNOW. I don't listen to that class anyway. Catechism: Tyler was making Kelsey so sick. And Dad went to Philadelphia! Monday, May 6, 1985 (age 13)



Today me and Kelsey were talking about who was doing what at that "retreat" (oh by the by - Tyler said he really enjoyed it - it was "awesome"). And we finally concluded that Dahlia was lying and that Tyler never "went down" Kelsey's shirt - or Dahlia's for that matter. Well anyway Kelsey also told me that at the retreat - she was talking to Tyler and he said "I really enjoy having all of you as friends. I love you all - Daphne, Callie, Kendra, Dominick, Nolan - but some more than others." (But can you believe it - he said MY name first!) Kelsey was upset because he never mentioned HER name though. Today was Becky's first Holy Communion. None of the easy stuff like we had - but a big whole complication of things. I don't even think I would remember how to do half the things they did! Oh well. Anyway, we saw Aunt Bea there and I also noticed Nadine, K.J. and Kendra Y. Other than that, today was a wicked ass boring day and that's why I'm cutting this short. 9:52

Today I got back from Dahlia's house and...what? Oh I didn't tell you. Last  night I slept over Dahlia's house. I was so wound up last night, I forgot to tell you! Oh yeah I'm still perfectly infuriated with HER. (and she's treating me like gold, of course). My grandparents came over today too. (Becky's first Holy Communion is tomorrow). And Becky got her hair cut. I didn't because I forgot to bring the picture I wanted them to copy, and it was much too hard to explain. So I didn't. Slick, huh? No sir I'm going on Thursday. Today we went on that catechism retreat. I would have enjoyed it except for one major problem: Tyler and Kelsey. Oh my god! Before I tear this whole book up - I'll tell you what happened - everything! There. I summed it all up in one word. She's such a bitch! If she wasn't such a goddamned SLUT she would know that I am trying to get a first boyfriend - but does SHE care? Oh of course not. All she probably cares about is to get a jolly off of the person I'm trying to date. I am perfectly FURIOUS! 10:38

Today in English, Tyler couldn't see ANY reason why I should be the least bit mad at him. I said HA! and told him if he wanted an explanation to go find Kelsey and ask HER. So he did. when she told him that he was treating me like shit and that I had every reason to be mad - he clammed up in a hurry. Well - I still like him but now I think I like someone else too - Sam Dawson. He is SO much nicer and much more handsome than Tyler! Oh well, gots to go. It be past my bedtime. 10:30

Wednesday, May 1, 1985 (age 13)



I don't know about this anymore. Today we had this concert at the town green and Tyler was ranking again - so Kelsey went to talk to him and tell him how jive he was and how it hurt my feelings. He said "So?" and then in English he acted as if we were going out! I mean what the hell did I do - I didn't kill his father or anything - my god! Anyway, Sabrina said he likes Kelsey and that now that she's not going out with Nick - well wow, wow and wow! Oh god help - I'm so problemed. I have to see the school psychologist. I may be going crazy! Help! 10:21

Tuesday, April 30, 1985 (age 13)



Today we got our term papers back. I got a B+. See, Nadine got her serious B- and she said "Beat that". Oh bust, bust, BUST!
Now onto another issue - this is really pissing me off. Ya know how Tyler can get in his little, one rank on me a day? And how he always says "Just Kidding?" after he says it? And how he just LOVES Kelsey and would NEVER say ANYTHING vulgar to her? Catch this - during a one hour period - nine put downs - not one - no sir - or just kidding and on top of that he was (literally) PLAYING with Kelsey! Tell me if that ain't low enough. 10:31

Monday, April 29, 1985 (age 13)



Today we were supposed to get our term papers back, but MR. TOOLE just wouldn't correct them ALL in one day - so we're getting ours tomorrow. Dahlia got a B-, Nadine a B- and same with Lacey. In Band we have to learn this march - uh, it's called Burnished Brass or something corny like that - in 2 days! We got it today and he expects us to have it perfect by Wednesday! Lord oh Lord oh Lord! That's all the excitement today except that I went to music lessons and am going to take the drums or the sax next year for jazz band (haven't decided which yet). Sunday, April 28, 1985 (age 13)



Today we (Mom, Becky and I) went to the mall. While Mom and Becky were shopping for some clothes for Becky, I was told I could shop anywhere I wanted for 45 minutes. What I didn't realize at the time, was that the watch Mom let me borrow was 10 minutes slow (Mom didn't know this either). When I arrived at the place we were to meet, they were not there. A half an hour later they finally came and were extremely upset and didn't believe me that the watch was slow. Later, I went over to Lacey's and then did my homework. Then I beat up Becky. Exciting day, eh? 9:30

Saturday, April 27, 1985 (age 13)

Today we went to the MENC concert (ed. note - I have no idea what that stands for). I thought we did pretty good. Tyler was there, but usually, at concerts, he at least says "hi" but today I was invisible I guess! Or could it have been that everyone was so dead - getting up at 6:30am on a Saturday! Ick! ANYWAY - when I got home, I went to Kelsey's and helped her finally change her room around (its been the same way for about 4 years). Then, while she went to church, I mowed our lawn. Then Lacey and Nadine came over for a little while, and I dressed up like Madonna and when Kelsey came over later, she did too. Then we went for a walk, and then I came home and here I am! 9:31

Friday, April 26, 1985 (age 13)



Let's just say today was a flop. In English we went to the library, Tyler never even LOOKED at me! (too busy with Ivy Cubero and Layla Nucci, I suppose) Anyway, in Band, I missed being on Maeve, Kelsey and TYLER'S bus by one crummy line! Ugh. Let's see, what else. Me and Kelsey went out to dinner, then after that we went to Nadine's house to tell her off. As it turned out, Nadine bullshitted her way out of that mess by putting it all on me. (For example: Daphne had no right to tell you anything - anyway I said nothing! Daphne said everything!) See what I mean? Those were her exact words too. (sigh). 9:25

Thursday, April 25, 1985 (age 13)



TODAY! WELL NOW WE HAVE SOME VERY EXCITING THINGS THAT HAPPENED TODAY! HERE WE GO! 1) uh, well, uh, well exactly what is number one? well, uh, we could say that - nah that's not exciting. oh yeah, bet! I got it! I GOT MY REPORT CARD TODAY!!! (boo! Not exciting at all! Boo! Boo!) oh well how about - I GOT A C ON MY HISTORY TEST! (boo! that's even worse! boo! boo! boo!) uh, um, gee, well howzabout: TYLER WAS SO NICE TO BRING ME A BAND-AID WHEN MY BLISTER POPPED!! (ugh! how awful! Those are so dry! Ick!) I got it! LACEY IS DOING HER BEST AT GETTING ME JEALOUS ABOUT TYLER! (yeah! but now - you don't have any more room to tell us about it! Wednesday, April 24, 1985 (age 13)



Today while I was idly ironing, Mom called (no this was not one of her "usual" calls either) about how the nurse at school called and told her about my committing suicide (and she was pissed to hell! Not the nurse, Mom!). After that, Neil managed to get his bike stuck in our garage door and lock us out of the house at the same time (ugh, we locked ourselves out twice!). Then after that, we had a another band concert, except this one sucked like SO bad! Also Kelsey said that yesterday she was talking to Tyler and he said he's got three problems: 1) Quinn 2) me 3) school. Tell ya about them tomorrow. 9:37

Tuesday, April 23, 1985 (age 13)


Today hoo-boy! Sabrina brought in these pills, right, and said that if I REALLY wanted to kill myself to take them (there were 9). So I had them and Maeve pick-pocketed them and gave them to Kelsey. Then Kelsey trashed 8 and gave me one. I was extremely upset as you can imagine because Tyler was saying that I wouldn't take them either. Later, when I was at catechism, Mrs. Costner (ed. note, the Girl Scout troop leader) called saying to Dad "How could Daphne kill herself?" When I got back, I had to call her and so I made up this excuse how I had dreamed it and it got around the whole school that I really tried. Nice and swift for 9 seconds, huh? 9:57

Monday, April 22, 1985 (age 13)



Oh well guess what happened today. Tyler found out that I committed suicide! Now Sabrina knows and that wouldn't be all that bad if Dexter Driscoll didn't know but he does too! Oh boy, my life is kaput now! Kelsey said she was talking to Tyler and that he said he CARED about me! Well, as you can imagine, I felt pretty good about that statement. What Kelsey DIDN'T tell me (about 4 hours later she did) was that Tyler also said that he liked me as a FRIEND and that he would never think of me as his girlfriend. Oh well, too bad, I just tried again. 10:13

Sunday, April 21, 1985 (age 13)



Today me, Lacey, and Nadine went to the center where this company has an obstacle course they have there. When we got home, guess who called! Kelsey and Dahlia! And Kelsey with her big explanation about how we shouldn't be mad at Dahlia because DAHLIA never did anything. So I told Nadine, and Kelsey apologized. And Nadine, being her big dumb self, went right along with it. Then Kelsey wiggled her way right out of that mess without even a word. Dahlia called here at about 9:30 and went into a big explanation about why she didn't do anything. Oh WHO should I believe? 10:19

Saturday, April 20, 1985 (age 13)



Wat a BORING day! I got up at a quarter to ten and watched cartoons (yes I still do!) until 12. Then Mom made me hang sheets on the line - she wouldn't even let me take a shower first. Then when I was taking a shower, Kelsey and Nadine came over and tried to surprise me by hiding in my room. Then we went over Kelsey's, THEN to Nadine's. At five, when Kelsey had to go to church, I ate dinner. We couldn't go to the movies because we didn't have a ride back so Kelsey and I went for a walk. Then I went to Nadine's again and I just got back 39 minutes ago. 10:39

Friday, April 19, 1985 (age 13)



Today I had to babysit Becky (golly I just got home!) and then Nadine invited me to sleep over and what do you think Mom said to that? No of course. Then I invited Kelsey over to eat dinner but she said no because she had already promised to go to Keith Dacosta's hockey game and it would be pretty jive if she didn't go when he asked her first. Right now, Kelsey is sleeping over Nadine's house. Of course I'm not there, nobody lets me do anything anymore! Oh good night now. 11:52

Thursday, April 18, 1985 (age 13)



Oh boo-hoo! We're leaving today! But before we left we went shopping and I took back my Swatch because it kept stopping! Oh well. I bought Tatiana some earrings (she's my secret pal and we had to), a t-shirt and a present for Elle because Margaret didn't have any money and Elle is Margaret's secret pal. Now she owes me $1.90 and I think I will stop now. Then when I got home I had to call and tell people I was home! Gosh! I mean really! Oh well, g-night. 9:48

Wednesday, April 17, 1985 (age 13)



Today we spent the day at St. George's. It was raining (again) and by the time we walked to the bus stop - we were drenched. Then in St. George's we went to some shops and I bought Lacey's present, and after that Iris, Tatiana and I went to lunch at this deli. It was so expensive - one glass of soda was $1.25! I bought some pudding (for $1.25) and let me tell you, it wasn't much bigger than the soda. While we were in this shop I changed into some jeans I brought, but they weren't dry either! Oh well, at least we got home OK! Bye! 9:44

Tuesday, April 16, 1985 (age 13)



Today it was sunny for a change! We were supposed to go to the beach but we went to this aquarium instead. It was more like a zoo. Really! Then after that, we went shopping. I bought this bone china horse (Cost - $41, expensive huh?) Anyway, then I bought this pale purple jumpsuit for $33.95 or something like that. Also Nadine's present. Well good golly gosh! I'm out of things to say! No wait...me, Iris and Tatiana went on this horse and buggy ride - I <3'd it! That's all for now! 9:39

Monday, April 15, 1985 (age 13)


Today we stayed here on the island as a sort of a "break" day. It's a good thing we did because it rained the whole day! We planned to go to the beach (the little one on the east side of the island) but I guess we couldn't, huh? Also these Girl Guides came to have dinner with us. There was this one girl, Ophelia, who was really nice. She called me and Tammy a "perk" which supposedly means that we're snobs! Ophelia even said that I looked like the type who'd have a boyfriend. Sunday, April 14, 1985 (age 13)



Today is Sunday. Which means church. Or mass started at 11:30 and we were in town at 9am. But you see, because this country is really religious, nothing was open. So we did nothing until 11:30. Then at the mass, Jesus Christ! This woman kept singing after everything the priest said (I thought he had a Texas accent but Kendra Y thought he had an English one. But does it matter?) Anyway, after that we went to this dolphin show and then to the Crystal Caves. I mean like really awesome! Then it started to rain and we were standing outside for an hour and a half waiting for a bus to come. I mean SIKE! 9:10

Saturday, April 13, 1985 (age 13)



Today we went shopping again. This time I got Becky this little policeman doll. I also got a pair of earrings and a shell bracelet (can't decide for who yet). Then we went on this glass bottom boat ride. It was so fresh - you could see the entire ocean bottom! After that, we had lunch. Then we went to the beach. We were there for about an hour, and even though I didn't go in the water, I was covered in salt and sand and had to take a shower. But after one person had taken theirs, the water ran out! Oh well! Friday, April 12, 1985 (age 13)



Today we went on a bus tour. We went practically over the whole island! I also used up a whole roll of film on this tour. After, we had a picnic lunch at Victoria Park, and then went shopping. I bought 10 postcards, 8 stamps, perfume for Mom, and a SWATCH watch! I was like SIKE! After shopping, we came back and had dinner (which was chicken, stuffing and corn). Then after dinner we had an exciting game of volleyball (with no net, and a Smurf beach ball), but it was really fun. Then I sat outside for a while thinking of none other than Tyler. I miss him! We're in Bermuda! I can't believe it! We were on the plane for about 4 hours but when we finally landed - this place is paradise! I love it! I don't want to have to leave! But there's one problem - Tyler! I want to stay here, but also share all of this beauty and serenity with him. I feel so upset - here in this beautiful place for a week, while he is back home - that assholey, boring place. I should go back and get him, huh? Oh well, nothing else except I <3 Bermuda! Today was interesting. The first half was so dead because Tyler didn't come to school until 5th period. So we'll start the day with 5th period - bet? So...in 5th period (after we ate lunch) we went to the Hall of Flags in Hartford where we did a concert. The skirts we have to wear are so massively rejected! Tyler was being so mean to me - I mean it was just like last year - never a kind word at all. I wanted to punch him so bad! Then, after the concert, we got home at 3:30 because the bus came SO late! Then I went to the Middle School for a Science Fair. Now I'm beat - bye!

Tuesday, April 9, 1985 (age 13)

I found out that Tyler wasn't in school yesterday because he went to Father Neadle's funeral. But it was nice to see him again. In English, he said that while he was at the funeral, the new priest came up to him and said "Are you going to follow after Father Neadle when you grow up?" So Tyler goes "Yeah, well we all have to die at sometime or another." and the priest goes "No, no I mean do you want to become a priest." And Tyler's like Oh-oh! Sure, yeah, whatever you say. Then I went to the orthodontist's and then to the store. I got a new hat (for Bermuda), a new raincoat, and a white shirt for the concert tomorrow. Busy day! I also packed for Bermuda. Today was massively, horribly, repulsively terrible! Tyler wasn't here in school! Oh well, please be at school tomorrow Ty! 4 days without seeing ya is pure torture! Also, what made this day so massive was that when Kelsey was over, Nick came over and they sorta, well, you know, fooled around. Yeah, that's it. Anyway, he just wouldn't leave! Easter Sunday! At church I was positive I'd see Tyler - but all I saw was his dad, his mom, Ken, Carson (ed. note: Tyler's younger brother), and his big sister. I'm like FINE, just stay home by yourself. FINE! Then Aunt Bea came over and I got this pin from her (oh in my basket I got a pair of 14K gold earrings - SIKE!). Then I put on my fake nails (Lacey doesn't like them) and Kelsey came over. But guess who called me today! You guessed it - Dahlia Devons! (even the name puts this diary to shame). Today (I'm still over Nadine's remember) I was only at my house for about 9 hours total! First I was at Nadine's, then we went to Caldor and Something Special, then off to the tennis courts (and Nadine thinks *I* can't play!). Then to Kelsey's, to my house for dinner, and back to Kelsey's until 9:00. Well, that's all really. Nothing special except while out shopping I bought some fake nails and a navy blue leather tie! What a day! What a day! My anger has ceased. Well to a minimum of 9.9 from the maximum of 99.9 (because of Diary Entry April 4, 1985). But! She is going to get her just desserts! Nadine said it was her mother's fault but STILL.
I missed Tyler in church! Kelsey said he looked so good (piss, Piss, PISS). When I slept over Nadine's tonight Kelsey came over! Vaughn was sleeping over too so Kelsey was taking a walk with him for the longest time! Coz went and stepped on me too! The thing was - we couldn't wake Nadine! I am pissed to HELL right now. Do you know what Dahlia just did? It was so low, so rude and so insulting that I committed suicide today. Yes, but it didn't work. Today's day. Health - we saw a videotape on Men and Boys - funny! French - boring! I could fall asleep in that class! History - took my test, I think I got maybe a B. Today was so rush-rush! Terrible I tell you, especially since I was wearing 2-inch heels! It was regularly boring, except that instead of going to catechism tonight, we went to Girl Scouts. We had to pack food, get the "need" list, etc. I can't believe it! Only *8* days until Bermuda! A week and a day! Well, that happened and then I broke a birthday (or was it Christmas?) present from Dahlia. April Fools Day! I swear some CORNY jokes were pulled today! For example someone stuck a sign on Mr. Toole's back saying "Sorry class, I was born this way." (Boo! Boo! That's SO dry!) Today we went to the movies (Dahlia, Lacey, Nadine and me). We were supposed to see "Desperately Seeking Susan" but the line was at least 2 miles long! So we went to see "Police Academy 2". That was so funny! Then I went to Lacey's until about 5:30, then we went to go pick up Mom. Dad and her had this phony argument about which side of the road to drive on, and Dad went home. So me, Mom and Becky went out to eat. After dinner we went and Becky got her Easter outfit. I got some shoes to wear for Easter too. They're black pumps. We'll see. Can you believe it? I called Tyler! Ohmygod I DO NOT believe that I could! Oh it really was nothing. I just asked him for the weeks homework in English. But that's good for starters - n'est ce pas? What else happened today? Oh I got two magazines from Mom and then we went to get my Easter outfit. Its a black blazer, a black & white striped shirt, and white pants (SIKE!). Didn't go to school today. And I thought staying home was fun! Talk about boring! Uck! Dad sez I won't be going to school tomorrow either. Dad sez that the Doc sez that if I keep jumping and running around, that the germs that are on my tonsils will go down into my body and then I'll get rheumatic fever. It's this heart disease that makes you incredibly sick and that you gots to be in the hospital for about 10 days (Bet!). But you can't die from it (too bad!)

I didn't go to school today. Doc says I have a severe case of strep throat. Dad says I can't go to school until Friday. Kelsey was over after school for about an hour. Then she left for 2 hours and at about 5 she came back. But with Keith Dacosta! Then we went outside and he left to go play some basketball with Cameron Yancik. I went inside for a minute, and when I came back out I saw Nick and Kelsey kissing! So I asked her if her and Nick were going back out. She said no they were just good friends. I personally think that's sick but what would I know?

Well! Today certainly was INTERESTING. I went to school until 3rd period. Then I went to the nurse. Dad didn't get to the school until the end of 4th period. What was wrong? Oh, just a headache, sinus pain, strep throat and a fever of 101. Nothing big. (ha, ha, psycho). Then, I didn't go to catechism (of course). After catechism ended, I called up Kelsey to ask how it was. She said Tyler had told her to say hi for him and he hoped I felt better. I'm like total SIKE!!

Well, today in History (we went to the Library), me and Ivy sat together. We were looking through these magazines and acting like real assholes. In English me and Tyler talked the whole time. Nothing great happened in Band or Algebra. Science, I was the first person up to do my report! I was so embarrassed.  I got Lacey and Dan to help me. I think I probably got a B on it. Then after school, Kelsey came over and we watched General Hospital. Later I went over Lacey's and then to clarinet lessons. Coz asked me if there were any black people in our school! Today guess who was at church! I was like SIKE! After church we went to "Something Special" to look for clothes for Bermuda. I got a black sweater, black shorts, a white jumpsuit, a grey, pink and white shirt, a blue "Charms" vest,  a white short skirt, a white, blue and purple satin shirt and that's it! Then we went home and I worked on my homework. Then I went to Kelsey's until 5:30 and went home to din-din. After din-din I worked on my homework. Then Lacey and Nadine came over and I helped Nadine pick out an order of clothes for tomorrow. After that, I went to their house until 8:30. Then I came here and here I am! 9:15

Today was such a massive bore! First I went over Nadine's house (I went there at about 12). Then her toilet clogged. So we were plunging it until about 1. Then for the next 2 hours, just a lot of happy horseshit. Then Mallory and Quinn called and Lacey and Nadine left to go meet them at the center of town. Tyler wasn't here today! I am like Oh No! And half my day is gone right there. Today catechism was really pretty fun. The people who were there were K.J. (of course), me, Kendra Y, Kerrie T, Tyler, Nolan I and Dominick Nepali. We all sat in the back and talked about prejudices. This morning we had an hour cancellation of school! Yeah!
Everyone's so mad at Dahlia and its like I'm her only friend. Ya know? It's really gross. On the bus - everyone's talking and having a real ass-slapping good time and she just sits in the corner and listens to her music.
God, I am so tired! My tonsillitis is acting up again. My medicine isn't strong enough.

This morning from 12:01 to 10:00 was the most uncomfortable sleep. See, when I slept over Nadine's, Bumpus slept on the bed with me. Coz went and took up half the bed! Then after I left there, we went to church, but no TYLER (!????). Then I went to the park and then to Kelsey's. I tried to jump out of her window, but I scared myself shitless and wouldn't jump (I was just HANGING there!). Then I left and went to the Drake's house until 7. Then at 8:30 me, Nadine, and Neil played Simon Says (SIKE!) until 8:40 and now its 8:55! SIKE!

Saturday, March 16, 1985 (age 13)



Today was such a bore! Becky was at this birthday party, so I went with Lacey to her babysitting job until 11:30am. Then I came back and waited for Becky. Then for the next four hours life wouldn't be any more exciting than a can of blue paint.  For the next 2 hours, Kelsey and Nadine came over. Then after dinner I went to Nadine's house. Me and Kelsey stayed there until 8, then Kelsey had to go home. Then I slept over Nadine's. Ugh! Nadine had me stay up until midnight and I can't say any more because from now on, it's tomorrow!

Friday, March 15, 1985 (age 13)



Did I ever tell of the "Great Worries" that I have? If not, here they are. 1) Wendy Hickey. 2) Lacey Gardner. They are a worry but because of one subject - Tyler Sherman. Why are they worrisome? I'm worried that Tyler may like #1 subject or #2 subject.
Never mind my worries though, what about today? Well, today we had a concert at the elementary school (am I siked or what?). And in Science we had a test. After school I went over to Kelsey's and then after dinner went for a walk with Lacey (remember - she's #2 worry). She's mad at me because she is a "Great Worry". Too bad Miss Gardner!

Thursday, March 14, 1985 (age 13)


Today, Tyler was so nice to me! Well, except for the breath freshener. He kept spraying that stuff on me so I finally smelled like a spearmint leaf! But, he kept holding my hand. Then he took my bandanna to see if for a minute. Then Dan came over and took it. He put it on his head and we dared him to wear it like that in Band. He did! It was so funny!
I hope Tyler likes me, I mean it has been 6 1/2 months of trying and now he's called me twice, is acting like a brother, and is holding my hand! Not a big jump for 6 1/2 months but then again, I'm a slow mover. 9:36

Today was very interesting. Tyler wasn't in Health, so in 2nd period I kept telling myself to stay in a good mood and that he had probably just went to sectionals. But by 4th period and the absent list said "Sherman, Tyler" in its big blue letters I got discouraged. In 6th period however, when I saw him there I thought I was dreaming. Then, in 7th period, Tim embarrassed me by saying "You better tell Daphne where you were all day, Tyler, she was getting upset by your absence." I'm like Oh My God! Oh well, tah-tah for now! 9:21

Today my alarm went off, so I got up and took a shower. Then I made my bed and got dressed. I put my makeup on and curled my hair. Then I waited for the bus. When I got to school I went to gym where I played volleyball. Then on to French, History and English. After English came Band and then Lunch. Then came Algebra and finally Science. After Science I went outside and went home on the bus. At 4pm I went around the block with Nadine and then I had dinner. Then I went to catechism and then back home. Today Tyler and I got called down to Mr. Evans's office. He was harder than I thought. I was going to explain my half of the story but I have never been in a conversation with him and he scared the shit out of me. He said he was calling my parents to "explain" it to them. Today was Mom's birthday, but boy, was she being a bitch! Like this morning - we all went for a ride and every place we went Mom would go "No, I DON'T want to go THERE!" I'm like Fuck You Mom. I still have my tonsillitis, but I feel much better today. Kelsey came over, and Lacey too for about 5 minutes before Kelsey. Today was really boring because Mom wouldn't let me do anything. When Kelsey was over, we were pranking these people and (I'm telling you this because this was the most exciting thing that happened today) when they answered we would ask for someone. Ick! I have tonsillitis! Oh well, no school for me today. Kelsey didn't go to school either cuz she has strep throat. But oh my god guess what! Tyler called me FOR REAL this time! No, Nadine didn't con him. I was talking to her and then I got the beep that another call was waiting. So I go "Hello" and this guys voice goes "Hello? Is Daphne there?" I'm like who the HELL is this so I say "Yes, this is her". "Oh hi this is Tyler". I'm like OH SHIT! So we were just talking and I found out that he didn't go to school either (migraines) and all this happy horse-shit about Mr. Evans. I don't think I'm going to get to sleep quickly tonight. Today in gym Tyler said Mr. Evans (ed. note: the school principal) found out. In History he said that Mr. Evans and Mrs. Culver were giving him about 4 detentions and that I was "off the hook".  I felt pretty bad that he was taking the blame, so I went to see Mr.  Evans. He said that he was going to speak to both of us tomorrow. In English Tyler said we may have to have a parent conference. That means no Bermuda if we do!! Oh my god! I thought I was dead meat today in Science. See, Tyler took my three weather maps and ripped off the top part with my name on it. Then he handed it in. Mrs. Culver called Tyler up to see whose handwriting it REALLY was. I was up there too and when she asked, I confessed. So, she sent us down to Mr. Givens . Mr. Givens didn't know what the big deal was, so he sent us back. Mrs. Culver sent us back down a second time and Mr. Givens sent us back AGAIN saying that he'd have a talk with Mrs. Culver. I hope we don't get in trouble because we only gave Mr. Givens ONE of the weather maps. 9:37

Today the power went off at like 4 in the morning and school was an hour late. Which is FINE with me! Anyway we had co-ed gym which was quite embarrassing. Then I missed French due to a sectional. In Science, Tyler was being SO gross! He goes "Will you help me with my project? I need help. See, we need a mattress, and a zoom camera. Will you do it Daphne? You can't back down once you've said yes - come on Daphne." I was in hysterics, but I managed to say "Sure Tyler. Yeah. Bet." Which made me laugh harder and almost get a disciplinary sheet. P.S. Well, I made up with Nadine. She just wouldn't stop nagging me! In English, I said to Tyler "Nadine thought you were trying to come on to her in the car." And his eyes opened wide and he goes "WHAT?" So in a way, my fun lasted a little longer. Then I asked him why him and Victor were so dead at the dance. He said he couldn't dance. See? Very simple, and Lacey and Nadine were getting mad! That is absolutely no reason! Oh well, then I went to Lacey's after I went to lame-assed clarinet lessons.

Oh my GOD! Nadine likes Tyler! She was telling me how unfair it was because *I* didn't like the fact that she liked him. I'm like FUCK OFF. She knows how much I like him! Saturday, March 2, 1985 (age 13)



Well, today really sucked. We went to the next town over and I got a Daryl Hall & John Oates poster, new shoes for the dance and a can of Coke. Then we went home. What I wore to the dance was: my pink shirt, my grey shirt, my pink and grey vest, my grey jeans and my new pink and grey sneakers. The dance? Well, it started out OK, Tyler wasn't really having a good time though. When the first slow dance came on, I was hoping he would ask me. The second one I went to ask him, but he just ran off with Victor and Neil. The rest was just so horrid I won't write it in here.

Well today wasn't all that snappy. Health - test. French - reviewed some homework that I didn't do. History - talked about some court cases. English - handed back a composition, B+. Band - played "Prelude and Fugue", SIKE. Lunch - ate. Algebra - had test. Science - saw a movie on latitude and longitude. When I got home me and Kelsey called Dan and Becky was trying to rank (and I emphasize TRY).
Lacey says she doesn't know if Tyler can go to the dance tomorrow. Something about no ride or something. Then me and Lacey went to the library. Ah, nothing obviously. Well, its 10:04 and I am going now, bye! SIKE!

Today I tried on my dance outfit. I have one problem though, I don't have any shoes to match! I'm like oh no! And I COULD get a new pair of earrings too. Then, when we went to Girl Scouts, we talked about Bermuda. Oh I just can't wait! It will be SO MUCH FUN! Mom says I can't go because of my report card, but she's just a big bullshitter. We also got our candy bars. Dad bought ONE WHOLE BOX (15 bars!). Can you believe it!? 15 dollars in 12 minutes! Oh well, I have to be going now. Today was so funny! When we got home from school, I found out that I had left my key in the house, so me and Kelsey got the Drake's ladder and we got in (well Kelsey got in) through Becky's open window. It was so funny! And then we (Kelsey and I) went to "Something Special" (ed. note: clothing store) and I got these black Bon Jour pants, a pink and grey plaid vest, a grey shirt and a pink shirt, both to go under the vest. We are going to be so hooked up for that dance! I'm like SIKE! well, its 9:34 and I'm beat, I best be going now so bye!

Today was pretty interesting. We are getting very upset with Dahlia. She has changed so much! I don't think she'll last much longer with Martin. She's got this I-Can-See-Him-Whenever-I-Want attitude. I mean, give us a break Dahlia!

Back to school! Eew! Last nite (when we were at the center) we met up with Mr. Faggotty Ass Hole himself Nolan Iafallo. He threatened that he was going to call up Tyler and tell him that I called him an asshole. He didn't do it though.
I'm starting to like Tyler more and less these days. Some days he can be so mean and act like a real asshole and other days he can be so nice and sweet it's incredible. Oh well, I suppose after almost 6 months of liking the kid, and he doesn't like you, you begin to lose interest slightly. Well, I liked Dexter Driscoll for three years. No wait, that doesn't count.

Oh Mom embarrassed me so bad today in church! I was reading that church book and then Mom goes "Daphne, look who just sat down in front of us." And guess who it was? Tyler of course. And when you had to shake hands with everyone Mom goes "Why dontcha shake hands with TYYYLER, Daphne?"  I'm sitting here like SIKE.

Today, hmm, let's see. Oh yes. I was over Gardner's house (ed note: Lacey and Nick's last name) until, oh, let's say about 11:00. Then I went home and watched television until Nadine came over at about 3:30. She left at 5 and then Dad and Becky came home. Lacey and Nadine came over at 5:30 but had to leave at 6:30 because of dinner. After dinner I went to their house and from there to Kelsey's (yes, she got home today!) and she gave us our souvenirs. I got a pair of earrings and bright pink fluorescent gloves (no fingers!). Then we went back to Nadine's and had a ball! 11:18

Today I slept over Lacey's house while Becky's friend Ellie slept over here. Martin also slept over Lacey's house and almost until 11:00 we tried to get the Ouija board to work. Nick kept blowing out the candles - Nadine kept laughing, and Lacey kept insisting that this was never going to work. It never worked because everyone kept making so much goddamned noise! But regarding that, today was a massively boring day. 10:01

Today Nadine called up and was telling me how she threw up SIX times and it was just SO GROSS. Then Lacey won this dance contest thing and she got to invite 10 of her friends. Today was REAL boring. For the first half of the day I was just dead. Then Nadine came over. Today Nadine came over. Then she called Nick to come over so she could have a football pass with him (I didn't want to). So he comes over. Then Neil comes over. We told them that they couldn't come in the house - an exception for Nick because he wanted a drink of water. So while he's getting a drink - Neil comes in and starts to eat everything in sight. We made them leave and after dinner I went babysitting with Nadine - she got paid and I didn't - cheap!

Monday, February 18, 1985 (age 13)


Today it got up to 30 degrees, it's 0 now. Lacey and me went to the park today and Nick found a stray dog to take home. I mean if they don't have enough pets! I don't think they'll keep it though. Lacey also gave me her two 3-page pictures of Hall & Oates! SIKE!
I also had music lessons tonight. I mean, doesn't this guy celebrate holidays?

Today was SO nice! It's only -1 degree now, but today it was about 59 degrees and felt just like summer. Lacey, Nadine and I were out all day. But when the temperature started dropping and we went out - brr! Then Dahlia and me went to see "Beverly Hills Cop". That movie was the funniest movie I have ever seen! (with Eddie Murphy - hey, what can I say?) Even Dad liked it! OH SHIT - look at the time! It's 12:02 - bye-bye people, it's a little late don't you think?

Today was cool. My first day to get out into the world! (I was grounded for a week, remember? Or didn't I tell you? Doesn't matter, I just did now).
Lacey, Nadine and me all went to the center of town. I bought Mom her birthday present (already!) and made her open it. It was this crystal jar with little candies in it. I also got some blush. When we went to the drugstore, there was this eye-shadow - it was so fresh! It was this powder (like baby powder) and you just stick your finger in it and apply. Next time we go I want to get some - SIKE! 9:50

Friday, February 15, 1985 (age 13)


Last day of school for a week! Kelsey went to England at around 2:30 or 3:00. I gave her my lock to "protect" her on her trip there and back - it should bring luck...did for me! Well sorta.
Got my report card too. I got an A-, a couple of B's and some C's. Lacey got TWO D's!! Awful!
I got a Cabbage Patch Kid - her name is Abby DeLorna, but I changed it to Jessica Anne Sherman - nice huh? Ohmygosh! Lookit the time! 11:35! Best be chillin' out chilly! Bye!

OK! Today is Valentine's Day and who do I have as a Valentine? Ha Ha! You guessed it! Zippo! NO one - ya'll. In SCIENCE though (yes again, Science!) Tyler kept writing these notes to me - they're hidden somewhere in this book! (ed: note - I wish! I would have loved to see those, but alas, not in the book any longer) Since I gave him a Valentine and he didn't - he made me one! (ooooh!)  Well, a piece of composition paper and black ink isn't much, but hey! It's the thought that counts! On one of the notes he put "I <3 Daphne Signed Tyler the 'Best'". He wrote a note to Kelsey and I'm supposed to give it to her  - I haven't read it...NO - why would I do such a thing - I mean REALLY. SIKE.

Well! Today Kelsey didn't come to school because she was sick. In Science I had so much fun! Mrs. Culver was being such a bitch and me and Tyler were ranking the shit out of her. One example was - Mrs. Culver uses finger-paints to put on her makeup. Tyler made sound effects after each rank - if he wasn't laughing that is. There was one point where I was reading something and I had a funny feeling someone was watching me. Looking up - it was Tyler. His eyes are the bluest, most gorgeous things I've ever seen!

No school today! It's Lincoln's birthday - no catechism either.
Today was a real bore. I got up at 9:00 and spent until 12 watching television. Then I took my shower, ate lunch, did my homework, talked for a bit with Lacey, had a "Valentine's" dinner where we got a card and a box of chocolates - my diet - shattered! Then went and watched TV until now - 9:53 and I am about to die now - a real shitty day huh? Bye-ye.

Monday, February 11, 1985 (age 13)


Today was OK. We had a History test - ugh! In English though, Tyler goes "Do you still skate?" and I said "Yeah, why?". He says "Well, where were you last night?" I say I didn't go. "Why?" he asks. I say it was too cold. "Cold? It was about 40!" he says.  "No sir - I was grounded - can't go anywhere until Saturday." After that remark he looked pretty down.
In SCIENCE - my god - sometimes you wonder - does Lacey still go out with Eddie? Because she certainly is having her jollies with Tyler. That girl must LIKE getting me jealous - because she's doing a fucking good job at it...

Oh no! Four days until "Doomsday". Help! I am never going to get through that day in one piece.
TODAY what happened was - we were washing the car, and if I washed a place that had already been washed but looked dirty - Mom would boom out "I already washed that place goddammit! Wash those whitewalls and I want to see them WHITE! And if they're not - you're going to do them AGAIN!" So after 45 minutes of that, she made me wash the windows, and when I wiped the outside to get the water off - man, shit just went off the hook!

Today - well, how can I put this? It was "interesting" as I might say. Nadine came over and she and Becky started ranking on each other, OK? So I was just sitting there laughing because the ranks were so dumb - and they were just kidding around. So Mom grounded me for a week because while they were ranking I didn't defend Becky and that was SO inconsiderate not to even stick up for my ONLY SISTER. Then she goes into this bullshit on how Nadine never says hi to her and that she was such a maid to everyone - it's like gimme a break!

Well another Thursday has come and gone. Today we didn't have band practice - we went to see "The Grapevine" (ed. note: school play). Real dumb. Ivy Cubero kept giving Danielle Xavier (or was it TYLER?) these looks and smiles while she was up on stage.

Today - ugh! Gimme a break! Everything went along with the regular schedule - but after I had showered and dressed Dad comes in and says "NO school today!"  Oh was I PISSED - I could have 3 more hours of sleep! Shimmy - that ALSO meant another day in June and no Tyler! (NO SIKE). Later - Kelsey came over and at about 6 or 7 Lacey, Nadine and I all went for a walk around the block - ouch my hands hurt - gotta sign off for now!

Today Tyler went home early (boo-hoo) and I only saw him for a period and a half - terrible! He wasn't in catechism either - but when I was there me and Kelsey wrote this note and I told her I'd be spending this Valentine's alone. She's like yah yah - so what?

Today was OK. First - after I got home from Lacey's house (after I SLEPT OVER) I helped Lacey shovel her driveway and she helped me shovel mine. We also saw D.C. Cab - it was so funny! Today I went to the STORE (SIKE) and what did I get? Daphne got eyeshadow, a Valentine's Day card, AND mousse. Today was a real bummer. Guess what! Tyler got this butch cut! He looks so cute! I love it! I couldn't believe it was him when I saw him in Health today - from the back he looked just like Norman Marquis! (ick). Today was pretty cool - even though nothing really happened. 1st period - Gym (with Ms. Limmer? Lemme tell you how boring THAT is!) 2nd period - French. We saw this really retarded movie. I didn't watch it - I read my book. 3rd period - History - Mr. Toole - he's SO funny! He's my favorite teacher! 4th period - English - Mrs. Cesta made us read this poem - ICK! 5th period - Band practice. Oh my god! You WILL NOT believe what Nadine did to me today! She told me she was calling Dahlia - but she called Tyler and was telling him "oh PLEASE call Daphne - she would be so HAPPY" and making me feel SO cheap! She even LIED to him on top of that!! Today we (Dahlia and I) went skating for the whole day. On our little crusade, we came upon Martin, Eddie, Keith Dacosta, Lacey, Nick, Neil, Nadine, Kelsey and Belinda Chanover (or however you spell that last name).

Today me and Lacey went to the center of town. I got a magazine and earrings (SIKE - huh?).
Anyway - after our shopping spree - we went home and called Tyler's house but - unfortunately - he wasn't home. But would it be alright if he called Lacey back when he came home? Lacey said fine - and hung up. Why did she call? Because I had decided I couldn't wait until Monday for Kelsey to write the note, and for Lacey to do it over the phone - but he never called (NO SIKE - huh?)

Today was pretty neat. We had Health and it wasn't as great as I had expected - Tyler just talked to Kelsey and Lacey.
Oh - wow - this is so depressing - but - I am becoming (if not already) desperate. It sounds pretty gross huh? Well, I don't know - I want him SO fucking bad! At skating I told Kelsey *I* was going to ask him out - then I told her to write him a note telling him that I liked him, etc. This is becoming so crazy! I NEED him - my life is nothing without him. Today we got the new schedule changes. I have Health (with Lacey, Kelsey, and Tyler) and GYM again! Oh yuck! But Lacey and Beverly are in it (Kelsey too!) and that's good. Everything also is the same (cool, huh?).
Well, also in English I go: "Hey Tyler - guess who's in your Health class" and he goes "Who" and I said "Kelsey, Lacey...and...me". "Oh", he says. I thought maybe something good would come of it  - and in the cafeteria he gave me another head bump (SIKE). I'm getting there - so help me I am!

Today Eddie called Lacey and then Dahlia called for her on the other line while she was talking to him. So when Lacey left - Nadine goes "Eddie, ask Lacey out on Valentine's - it'll be SO perfect!" So he goes "Shit man, I'm askin' her out way before that!!" Then Nadine made me tell her something on account that she get Tyler to call me (like Eddie to Lacey) in 22 days from today (Feb 14). I have some serious doubts about this too! But Eddie's gonna ask Lacey out - so maybe this idea will work for me! (Maybe) (I hope)

Braces day! (NO SIKE - believe me). These suckers HURT! I got to school at 11:30 and Nadine was the first person to see them (in school). I can not chew ANYTHING and TYLER was calling me Tinsel Teeth, etc. And he's got 'em too! In Science, Kip pointed and laughed at my braces (he's got them too) so I gave him El Birdo - he didn't laugh any more! Well, I have to sleep in pain to-nite. Nite-Nite!

Today was pretty COOL (that's my new word, word up!) Well, anyway - we (Lacey, Nadine, Nick, Neil and I) went to the skating pond. We met Dahlia there and skated for a while. Nadine made Eddie talk to Lacey and ya know - there's a 60/40 chance of him asking her out! I told Nadine - I said "Nadine, because you're doing such a lovely job on Eddie and Lacey - help me and Tyler OK?" and then she said "OK - I'm just the perfect little matchmaker aren't I?" and she started to giggle a bit. Today was pretty boring. I couldn't go anywhere because I forgot to clean the cat box. Can you believe it? Nadine came over for awhile, then left to go to the skating pond. So I read my book "The Stand". I'm almost done! 817 pages since Christmas isn't too bad, is it? Well, if it is, it was pretty boring and I didn't read it all the time. That's my story. Today I think I embarrassed myself so bad I won't be able to look someone in the face again.
See, Kelsey was upset at my attitude and in the car Lacey said something about me and I said "Oh no! What did I do now?". Kelsey says "Nothing", but I guess I didn't hear her because I yelled "Oh shit what did I do now?" with MR. DRAKE (ed. note, Nadine and Neil's dad) in the car! I heard about 4 voices in that surprised tone: "DAPHNE!"

Today I didn't see Tyler in Science BECAUSE - there wasn't any! We got out of school just after Math started! SIKE. I have never gotten out of school early before! Later - I conned Mom into letting me go skating. She took away my curling iron too! She took it because she says I didn't unplug it. But I DID. I don't believe this. What am I going to use on my hair?! I will get the most MASSIVE cowlicks. Oh help. I will positively KILL her if I have to go to school without curling my hair! I don't BELIEVE this...

Wednesday, January 16, 1985 (age 13)



OOOH! Tyler was so MEAN to me today! In English, he kept sticking tape and things on my sweater. They ranked on Kip again too (SIKE). In Science - he had this long strip of tape and he started to ball it up. So I said "Are you having fun?" So he goes "Yeah, I rub this on my peenee and it goes VROOOP!"  I was rolling! The way he said it was the funniest part.
Oh I also got "spacers". They're these little rubber bands (eight of 'em) that ya shove between yer back teeth and that moves them around a little so you kin put the braces on. I have 6 clear and 2 blue 'uns (SIKE).

No school today because of Martin Luther King Day (half-sike). I didn't go skating for two reasons. 1) It was freezing 2) Noone could go! And shitty Mrs. Mixton gave us about 50 pages of homework and that took up about 3 hours of the day - and I still ain't finished! Dad left for Florida today and tomorrow I have to have my teeth spaced (NO SIKE there at all). Yawn, I'm so tired. Good night!

Monday, January 14, 1985 (age 13)


Today I went ice skating AGAIN. But before that I had so much FUN in Science! Tyler, Tim, and Ulysses were ranking on Kip and so Tim goes "Daphne you're fat" or something like that. So Tyler goes "Nuh-uh Daphne's not fat. Ya wanna see FAT" and he pointed at Kip which sent up hysterical laughter.
At skating, Tyler kept skating really close to me and Kelsey kept going "Look! He keeps going near you - oh-oh Daphne!" But it was really kind of fun except when I fell on my ass and now it hurts more than shit. Maybe the pain will subside by tomorrow. Hope so!

Today was pretty cool. We went skating from 2-8:30 (SIKE). Tyler wasn’t there though, and I have to admit, I still like Dexter Driscoll. Yes from 5th to 7th grade, I had a MASSIVE crush on him, and when he gave Lacey a “friendly” kiss, I went bonkers! But let’s not talk about that now. Kelsey was being such a massive bitch tonite. She kept crying because NICK just didn’t want to bother with her tonite. Every time we came near her: “Get away from me goddammit!" Today was so fun! Kelsey, Dahlia and I all went ice skating for about 2 hours, then I went to church, THEN to Dahlia’s house to eat dinner, and skated after that for another hour and a half. That hour and a half was from 7:00 to 8:30 and TYLER was there! (SIKE!)
Guess what! Kelsey says Dahlia and Neil look so cute together! I think so too. I also think Kelsey and Nick, Lacey and Eddie, and Nadine and Harold Ivanhoe. Dahlia says me & Tyler, but I don’t. Do you?

Friday, January 11, 1985 (age 13)


Today was SO fucked. It all started today after school. Lacey said she didn’t know if her mother could get me home in time, so she said I couldn’t go with them to the center of town. So I went by myself. I met up with them at the drugstore. I got home OK. Then Lacey asked if she could sleep over. I said “Sure, I guess…I don’t know” and that I would call her cuz I thought I had to babysit Becky. But I had to go out with Mom and Dad in the end. When we got back, I told Lacey to come over, but she gave me this big ordeal and hung up. Great day huh.

Thursday, January 10, 1985 (age 13)


Busy, Busy day today! In school we didn’t do a whole lot of work because of the course selection thing. Course Selection Day ya know. When I got home I watched General, then Nadine and Lacey came over. Then Dad, Becky, and I all went out to dinner. Then I went to Girl Scouts, THEN I went back over Lacey’s, THEN I finished up my science project. And now I’m writing in here but I’m going to stop now. Bye.

Today in school, OK, Tyler was TALKING to Ulysses Burnstein! I mean he NEVER talks to him! He’s always RANKING on the little shit! What makes it even more amazing was the fact that he was talking to him about THE GIRL THAT HE LIKES!!! He was saying that this girl was really nice and that through a little more checking out, he’d ask this girl out. (SIKE). The thought has lightened my mind. Could it be me? Or does he hate my guts? Tuesday, January 8, 1985 (age 13)



Today when we went to go to catechism, we got there all right, but noone was there! So then Dahlia pulled up and we went to the Rectory, where Father Neadle calls his house. Mrs. Tyson (ed. note: the housekeeper) said he had never come! So then we went to the bowling alley and Dad picked us up. But I had dropped a glove in the parking lot. So we had to go back and get it. GAWD it was such an INTERESTING day!

Monday, January 7, 1985 (age 13)


Today I wore my grey jeans and the fluorescent sweater  - etc. Kelsey said I looked tough. Ivy said she loved my sweater and wanted to know where I got it. Nadine said I looked “nice”, Lacey said I looked “gweat”, Tyler liked my bandana and Dahlia said I looked “extremely wonderful”. Only Sabrina said I clashed - but what does she know? I really hate her now, she’s always talking about me - in front of me even! I wish she’d just go and find a dog and just fuck it up the asshole. Ya know what I mean?

Today was pretty cool. Even though I didn’t get to go the mall - it wasn’t a boring day. Lacey came over, then Nadine. Kelsey followed, but she left for a second to bring in Nick. We were all doing Becky’s 1000 piece puzzle (the Muppet people) and we would have done it except most of the pieces are missing! Seriously! Later we went out and all horsed around. After dinner I went over to Lacey’s and then she came over here. It was pretty fun - seriously!

Friday, January 4, 1985 (age 13)


Today was a half and half day. The bad part was that me, Kelsey, and Dahlia were really getting sick of Nadine. Why? Because she talked behind our backs - but I suppose everything’s cool now. Even though Nadine laid another “Guilt Trip” on Kelsey, and she ALWAYS falls for it! And Sabrina - she doesn’t talk behind my back, she says it right to my face! Well, that’s the bad - the good is, it’s Saturday tomorrow and I saw Tyler today. Nite Nite for now.

Thursday, January 3, 1985 (age 13)


Today was so dumb. I hate dumb days because - they’re dumb! I’m shivering the shit out of myself at the moment - I’m SO cold!
Hey! I’m getting there! I’m overcoming the shyness shit. Slowly but surely! I can talk to Tyler for about one minute now without blushing the shit outta me.
We didn’t have band practice today, cuz Mr. Neuman was sick (SIKE). Like I said  - today sucked so I’m signing off early - bye bye!

Wednesday, January 2, 1985 (age 13)


School again! Yick! Well after 20 days of torture Tyler was at school. I was so siked up. I felt as if a pound of “uppers” were poured into my system. He kept talking to me - and I hate myself for it - I just couldn’t strike one up with him. I’m so fucking shy I HATE it! I wish I could stop - I keep telling myself to - but I CAN'T. Oh well, back to reality. I’m tired and I’m going to go to bed now. Nite-Nite.

Tuesday, January 1, 1985 (age 13)


Ah-ha! The new year is here! But today really sucked because nothing was open! Nadine and Kelsey were at Sally’s so Lacey came over and we played Monopoly until it was dinnertime. Then I went over to her house and played Monopoly until I had to go home and go to bed. School tomorrow (NO SIKE). Well it is a sike because I haven’t seen Tyler in over 19 days and…well, let’s just stop now, OK?

Monday, December 31, 1984 (age 13)

Today we got back from Grandma’s. I have over 50 bucks! When we got home I went to Lacey’s and we went to the center of town for a minute. I got a magazine. Then we went back and played UNO. Then I had to go because I had to babysit Becky. Mom and Dad went to a New Years party. We watched MTV and rang in the new year in with them. Got to bed at 1:00 too (SIKE).

Sunday, December 30, 1984 (age 13)


Today we went to Aunt Fay’s to have lunch. Guess what we had? How did you EVER guess? How did you ever guess that we had spaghetti? (Gee - wild guess). Then Becky got this puzzle and we all had to work on it (1000 pieces!) of course. Theodore and them HAD to be there - can never get away from them. I was thinking - if Theodore was in our school I’ll bet you anything he would be considered a nerd. Ig! I’m glad he lives in Nevada! Away from me!

Saturday, December 29, 1984 (age 13)



Today we left for Grandma’s (its like - big sike) and guess who came about 2 hours after we got there? You guessed it. Uck! Theodore, Otto and Harry! (ed note: my two cousins and uncle) Yig! I didn’t pay much attention though - I pretended to be much more interested in Grandpa’s boom box. Later, we went out to dinner at this real ritzy place. Uncle Frank’s treat but he didn’t come cuz his girlfriend Lanie couldn’t make it. And I haven’t seen him in four years! What a day!

So, it appears that on this day in 1984 I "ruined" a picture (not this picture, this is courtesy of Google Image Search) of Steve Bond, the above actor who played the character Jimmy Lee Holt on General Hospital. Considering how many posters and prints of various people lined the walls of my room at the time, why the destruction of this particular image was so catastrophic we will never know.
